Green Ridge Day Trip

Green Ridge State Forest, 19 April 2025

It was a warm sunny day. Perfect for heading out on the trail.

The group of five vehicles met at the GRSF ranger station at 10am to kick off a day on the trail.

Javi & Ariana – Toyota FJC

Lucas & Gerardo – Toyota Pickup

Garrett – Ford Bronco

Mike, Darlene & Daughter – Jeep JKU

Brett & Wife – Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Green Ridge State Forest is a common venue for club activities. There have been trail rides, camping trips, and of course our annual Holiday party. After a brief driver’s meeting, we hit the trail. This trail is pretty mild; about 1 to 2 on the CORE Trail Ratings. That being the case, no one aired down. Since this was the first trip Javi lead, we stuck to the track that was laid out in the Aug 13, 2022 trip with the addition of Kasecamp road in Devils Alley and following the C&O Canal.

The group entered the state forest on 15 Mile Creek Road near the Green Ridge Youth Center and continued on that road. When we met the fork with Green Ridge Road, we stayed on 15 Mile Creek Road and followed it to Point Lookout Overlook. Visibility was not crystal clear, but the view was still fantastic. After a group picture, we got back on the trail and made our way along the Potomac River and C&O Canal until we got to Banner Overlook. We took lunch there and would have stayed longer had it not been for the flies and gnats. A light breeze would have been helpful.

After lunch we got back on the trail and made our way back toward the freeway where we had entered. Overall a great day on the trail with super-nice people.
