Peters Mill is usually a very beginner friendly trail, and a great trail to try off-roading for the first time. So it makes for a great meeting spot that’s open to any skill level. We had a great group along for the ride, about 14 vehicles.

We met at the 7-11 located at 340 W Reservoir Rd, Woodstock, VA  22664 around 10am. It was a great meetup spot, with plenty of room to fuel up and park for the drivers meeting, and they sold the $5 day pass there.

After talking through the plan for the day, and collecting trip waivers from the guests, we headed out towards the trailhead parking lot, located here: 38.78857, -78.52152. We went to the ATV parking lot, and aired our tires down for the trail. There are a few reasons to air down when off-road, like tire flotation on sand, traction on rocky surfaces, comfort, and protection against puncture. For Peters Mill, it was the last two that airing down helped with.

It was a gorgeous day, perfect temps for trail riding. The trail had gotten eroded a bit over the course of the year, and there were some fun and interesting bits where we got some good articulation and flex, and some fun rocks to climb over. Nothing particularly challenging for a stock 4×4 truck or SUV, but certainly interesting.

After riding for about 4 miles, we reached a large clearing where we circled up and took a lunch break and had our meeting. It was a great meeting, we’ve had an eventful couple of months of trail rides and events, so there was a lot to talk about. We also voted in two new members which is always a plus!

After wrapping the meeting up, we packed up and got back on the trail to finish it out. Like always, a very beautiful and scenic forested drive. As expected for such a nice day, there was a bit of traffic on the trail, with a mix of dirt bikes, atvs, and other full size 4x4s. But we managed to get through without any issues.

We wrapped up the trip at the parking lot on the north end of the trail, aired our tires up, and called it a day. Another great CORE ride with an always amazing group of folks.
