UFWDA Safety Awareness Course

4wdSafety Keith and myself completed the UFWDA Safety Awareness course yesterday in Abingdon MD. It is a full day course that ran from 9AM to about 4PM. The first part of the course is class room instruction. Each student received the Student Manual. The class room material covered topics such as off-highway driving skills, and recovery techniques. The manual also includes lots of good check list for items for pre-trip, things to bring on trips, and post-trip. A very comprehensive manual. It is something that should be taken on every wheeling trip.

“The course was very informative for both the beginner and the advanced wheeler who wants to brush up on his safety and recovery skills. “

The second part of the course was a outdoors. We met at the Chris Tefke’s (instructor) home and played on an RTI ramp for a bit. This was followed by a short trail ride on private land behind his home. On the ride we stopped for a live demonstration of vehicle recovery using a winch and a snatch block. A second demonstration was also covered showing the proper technique to recover using a tow strap.

The course was very informative for both the beginner and the advanced wheeler who wants to brush up on his safety and recovery skills. Recommended.

Thanks to Keith for organizing this event for us.
